Explore God

This Fall, 13 ministries have joined together to invite the greater Harrisonburg area to explore the big questions people have about God. Starting September 9, 2018, questions like, “Why does God allow pain and suffering?”, “Is the Bible reliable?” and “Is there a God?” will be explored in sermons and discussion groups throughout the community and online at http://www.exploregod.com/. Churches and ministries across denominational lines in Harrisonburg are partnering together to serve the spiritual needs of the city. The Explore God initiative was designed to make it easy for everyone, regardless of spiritual background, to explore God.
There are many different ways people can participate in this initiative:
  • You can explore online at http://www.exploregod.com/, where there are hundreds of films and articles.
  • You can join an Explore God Discussion Group in the community.
  • You can attend an Explore God Sermon Series at one of the participating churches.
The Explore God initiative runs from September 9 to October 21. During that time, participating churches from all over Harrisonburg are hosting open Explore God Discussion Groups and Explore God Sermon Series addressing these big questions. Anyone is invited to join, and there is no cost to attend.

2018 Praying and Fasting Guide

The Lord has spoken a Word over our church and that Word is Build. Over the past 6 years of church planting and pastoring I have come to the understanding that leading a healthy and growing church is not just about “ministering”, but it is also about building a culture that breathes, and breeds the life of Christ! Even after all of the things we have experienced, I still believe there is more… but we must be faithful and faith-filled to receive it. Building Faithfully is marked by diligence and discipline in response to God’s love and calling. Building Faith-filled (Full of Faith) is marked by complete dependence on God. Hebrews 11:6, “Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever comes to Him must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
What does it look like to Build Faithfully & Faith-full? Let’s take a look at the very next verse Hebrews 11:7: “By faith Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen and motivated by godly fear, built an ark to deliver his family. By faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.” As we look further into Noah’s story, in Genesis 6:5-21, we will see that his keys to building were intimacy, instruction, and influence. It was once said: “Noah looked like an idiot until it started to rain.” This year we are striving to follow Noah’s example of building by faith. We aren’t building an ark, but we are partnering with God to build a culture that is marked by both devotion and discipleship. We are striving to partner with God that we may live Ephesians 3:20 lives with testimonies that scream: #GodDidit. So we keep building even when it does not appear to be fun, easy, fancy, or comfortable. In order to partner with God, I am asking that we all create the space in our own lives by praying and fasting with and for the church. The Lord is inviting us to participate in His plan for our church, city, and beyond. I ask that you fast from Monday August 13th – September 2nd. Let’s get ready for what the Lord is going to do in our lives, families, church, and city.
