Rooted for Relaunch!
21 Days of Fasting and Prayer
Why are we Fasting?
We will begin 21 days of corporate fasting and praying on August 16th. We are believing for a significant harvest in the Fall including another wave of growth. Therefore, we are preparing our hearts and our church through prayer and fasting so that we may be ready for what God is going to do.
Ephesians 3:14-21 (Emphasis on 20-21)
14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
Preparing for the Fast:
Pray – Spend time reading the Bible before the Fast. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in your prayers.
Commit – Pray about the kind of fast you will do, and commit to it ahead of time.
Act – Start eating smaller portions a few days before the fast. Avoid food high in sugar and fat. Plan to limit physical and social activities for the duration of the fast. Ask someone to be your prayer and support partner throughout the fast.
Note: Consult a physician, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medication. If your situation does not allow you to do a full fast, determine what will work best for you.
Fasting Food Options:
Daniel Fast: Fruit & Vegetable fast. Here, you fast all meat and “choice foods.” If it’s not grown out of the Earth you should not eat it.
Partial Fast (6am-6pm): Fasting within a pre-determined bracket of time (e.g 6am – 6pm).
Full Fast: Drink only liquids (this excludes the chunky fruit smoothie).
NOTE: If you are not fasting from food for health or medication reasons, you might consider fasting from things that consume time or mental and emotional energy. Remember, fasting is all about the attitude of our hearts! The idea behind fasting is to create space to fellowship with God, and hear His voice. The fast you choose is between you and God. If you’re sincerely seeking Him, He will respond with a blessing. NOTE: You can also fast TV, sport, hobbies etc.
