Life Pastor
Pastor Robert Buchanan was born in Albany, Georgia, to Rev. Dr. Anderson and Dorothy Buchanan. He is a 1989 graduate of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa where he received a Bachelor of Science in New Testament Studies. In 1992 he completed his Master of Divinity from Regent University in Virginia Beach where he also met and married his wife Karen in 1990. Karen grew up in Delanco, New Jersey, and is the daughter of Carl and Doris Kalwaitis. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Design from The College of New Jersey and her Master of Arts in World Missions from Regent University School of Divinity. Robert and Karen lived and worked in Singapore from 1992-1993 helping to target unreached areas of Southeast Asia. They have travelled extensively around the world. From 1993-1998 they lived in Casper, Wyoming, where Rob served as the Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church. Moving back to the east coast in 1998, Rob and Karen helped with a church plant in Chesapeake, Virginia, where Rob was the Associate Pastor overseeing outreach and missions. In 1999 Rob was ordained with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Making the Shenandoah Valley home in 2001, Rob was called as the Senior Pastor at Elkton Evangelical Presbyterian Church until 2015. During this time he completed his Doctorate of Ministry in Leadership Studies in 2007 from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has served as the Assistant Stated Clerk for the Mid Atlantic Presbytery of the EPC since 2010. Rob and Karen began attending DUCC in 2016. They have three children.
 
Rob is serving as Life Pastor at DUCC helping to coordinate ministry to those experiencing transitional life events and facilitating congregational care. Keeping an eternal perspective is central to his life, family and ministry to which the Lord has called him. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18.
